Prime Minister's Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza said that government is working to upgrade the nursing profession; we are going with outdated 3 year diploma for nurses, now we will have a bachelor's degree for nurses.

PM's Special Assistant said this in inaugural session of three-day 3rd International Conference on Health Professions Education (ICHPE) started here at University of Lahore (UoL) on Thursday.

PM's Special Assistant Dr Zafar Mirza said that UoL was investing in important subject/disciplines such as Healthcare system, adding that health education was a very important topic for students.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan was also paying special attention towards health sector while a number of reforms have also been initiated to set the country in the right direction.

He mention that unlike many developing countries where ratio between doctors and nurses was one and four respectively, Pakistan has inverse ratio of four doctors and one nurse, which again proved the fact that Pakistan has great talent in the field of medical.

Zafar Mirza urges all the medical institutions to make more efforts to make our Healthcare system great, adding that we have to ensure same quality of medical services for everyone.

He said that government was aimed to provide all basic health facilities at primary level. "We will double the number of lady health workers," he added.

Special Assistant to PM mention that government providing Sehat Insaf Card to the poor people whose income are two dollar or even less than two dollar a day, adding that government would take their responsibility.

He informed that government had provided Sehat Insaf Card to 5 million poor people in Pakistan and have target to provide this Sehat Insaf Card to 15 million poor families, adding that government are gradually improving in this sector.

The event featuring 25 workshops is being organized by UoL in collaboration with other Medical institutes of the provincial capital city.
