(Karachi) Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Lieutnant General Nadeem Raza as Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC), a statement issued by PM office stated.

Lt General Ndeem Raza will replace General Zubair Hayat, who is retiring on November 27.  As Chief of General Staff, Lt Gen Raza worked closely with Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa.

He got commission in 10 Sindh Regiment in Pakistan Army in September 1985. He was designated as commandant of Pakistan Military Academy. He also headed the infantry division in South Waziristan.

Raza had served as Core Commander Rawalpindi in 2016. He was discharging his duties as the Chief of General Staff since August 2018.

The CJCSC, in principle, is the highest-ranking military officer across the armed forces.

He serves as the government’s top adviser on matters related to national defence and security. His job description also includes cross-service cooperation in all military processes.

Meanwhile, the statement further stated that the notification for reappointment of General Qamar Javed Bajwa as Chief of Army Staff for another tenure had already been issued on August 19, 2019.

Gen Qamar was set to retire on November 29 on completion of his three-year term. However, after extension he would serve as head of the army until November 2022.
