Rory Stewart ‘considering pact’ with Michael Gove against Boris Johnson in run for Britain PM

Rory Stewart, one of the candidates vying to become the next British Prime Minister, has said that he is 'considering combining forces' with rival Michael Gove against another contestant Boris Johnson in the run.

Speaking to BBC, Stewart, who is currently the international development secretary, said that although the two sides have different views on Brexit, the two would have to sit down and come to a common position. Stewart added that it is clear that Johnson is going into the last round.

"The question is, who is best placed to sit on the stage with Boris Johnson and who is best placed to ask the testing questions that need to be asked and who has the vision of Britain that is going to excite people," he added. Stewart further said that if the he and Gove could not reach any agreement, then of course they could not 'combine as a team.'

The five contenders left in the race to replace the last British PM Theresa May will face off in a third-round ballot on Wednesday. The one with the lowest tally will get eliminated ahead of more votes on Thursday. The five contestants fighting to get May's seat are Jeremy Hunt, Johnson, Gove, Stewart and Sajid Javid.
