China made history when it put its rover on the far side of the moon, something that had never been done before. The rover recently sent back some mesmerizing images of the moon's far side, showing the celestial body up close.

China’s Chang’e 4 lander and Yutu 2 rover have captured beautiful new images during their mission to explore the far side of the moon.

The lander and rover were put to the far side of the moon was to explore it, analyze chemical difference between the Earth-facing side of the moon and the mission’s target area. Craters studied by the rover were created by an ancient impact where layers of the moon's mantle are exposed, where they can be studied to determine its contents and more.

Scientists said that the surveyed area shows ‘potential evidence of excavated deep mafic material, which could reveal the mineralogy of the lunar mantle’, as per Planetary Society. In addition to satisfying curiosity regarding the far side of the moon, the mission will also help to educate scientists about the makeup of our early solar system.

While on moon, the cycle of day and night is around 30 Earth-days in total, with each one lasting about two weeks – two weeks of sunrise and two weeks of darkness, reported Daily Mail. The spacecraft was initially designed to last about three lunar days, however, it greatly exceeded expectations going on their fifth lunar day till now.
