iok_400ISLAMABAD: A pro-movement Kashmiri delegation urged the United Nations to take note of the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK).

This was stated by the Kashmiri leaders comprising Syed Yousaf Naseem, Altaf Hussain Wani and Sardar Amjad Yousaf, during the general debate on the annul report of the UN Commissioner on Human Rights on March 5, 2012 in Geneva, KMS reported.

Syed Yousaf Naseem said, Indian government is blocking the prosecuting of its army and paramilitary personnel involved in torture, extra-judicial killings, rape and enforced disappearances. Indian has granted total impunity to its armed forces by enacted draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act and Public Safety Act, he said.

"Office of the High Commissioner while discussing the human rights situation around the globe should not exclude the situation of human rights in Indian occupied Kashmir."

Sardar Amjad Yousaf Said that Deputy High Commissioner in her report mentioned that free assembly of the people in the different parts of the world specially in the Middle East and North Africa must be dealt by the states in manner keeping in view the international human rights law.

He mentioned that human rights situations in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir had been ignored. "People in the region think that we are ignored because we do not have oil." He said that discrimination and double standards at any level could not serve the cause of protecting and promoting human rights internationally.

Altaf Hussain Wani said, during last 13 months people of many countries got rid of autocratic governments in their struggle of right to self determination.

"Unfortunately this council and office of the High Commissioner has failed to respond to some of the important situations around the world notably that of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir where peaceful assemblies of the people demanding their right to self-determination are met with brute force and people are subjected torture and even thousands have been subjected to enforced disappearance."

He urged the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner to take note of the human rights situation of Indian occupied Kashmir.
