firdausMUZAFFARGARH: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said Pakistan Peoples Party's triumph in the Senate polls had set the momentum for PPP's victory in next general elections.

Talking to reporters, she said the PPP victory in Senate elections has disheartened some analysts who used to talk about government's ouster.

She said PPP, while disregarding wishes of the rivals, was moving forward in right direction in accordance with its manifesto. She said that by winning Senate elections, the party has laid the foundation for its victory in next general elections.

She said there was no alternative to PPP leadership in the country and rivals could hardly contest PPP on political front.

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said by introducing constitutional amendments, PPP has ensured independence of Election Commission and closed the backdoor for entry into power corridors once and for all. "No one will come to power without the support of ballot," she added.

To a question about media, she said PPP was incomplete without media because the party believed in democracy and represented poor segments of society. Neither PPP-led government would impose curbs on media, nor would allow attempts to nurture such thoughts, she added.

To a question about Balochistan, she said President Asif Ali Zardari was a Baloch and wanted to end sense of deprivation in Balochistan with the support of the people.

She said the PPP leadership would continue to play its role in keeping the Federation intact.

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said party was moving forward to provide 'Roti, Kapra aur Makan' in accordance with its manifesto and provision of six-marla residential units to 143 flood-hit women at Benazir Shaheed Model Village was part of its welfare- oriented and people-friendly policies.

She said the party was looking forward to provide relief to the people in the fifth budget of its government and termed it a big achievement for the democratically elected PPP-led government.
