NEW YORK: US stocks opened flat Friday following mixed action in European and Asian markets, with the Dow still resisting a
sustainable push above the 13,000 level.
In the first five minutes of trade the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 10.90 points (0.08 percent) to 12,969.40.
The broad-based S&P 500 lost 0.98 (0.07 percent) to 1,373.11, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added 0.30 points (0.01 percent) to 2,989.27.
"Modest weakness comes amid mixed action abroad and the growing concern among many market participants that the stock market is showing fatigue after its run higher," analysts at Briefing.com said ahead of the opening bell.
Even so, they said, the S&P 500 looks headed for its eighth weekly gain in nine weeks.
