On Prime Minister Imran Khan's request, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MBS) ordered on Monday the immediate release of 2,107 Pakistani prisoners from Saudi jails.

This latest development was announced by the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on his Twitter handle. The minister wrote, "As a sequel to Prime Minister of Pakistan's request, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mohammad Bin Salman has ordered the immediate release of 2,107 Pakistani prisoners from Saudi Jails."

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed his gratitude to the Saudi crown prince on his orders to release the prisoners. The foreign minister in a Tweet wrote,"Cases of the remaining [prisoners] will be reviewed. People of Pakistan thank His Royal Highness for responding immediately to Prime Minister Imran Khan's request."

On Sunday, the premier had requested MBS to look into the hardships of the Pakistani labourers in Saudi Arabia. He especially requested the Saudi crown prince to look upon the Pakistani laborers who were close to his heart as their own.

"There are some 3,000 Pakistani prisoners there and we just would like you to bear in mind that they are poor people who have left their families behind," PM Khan said. In response, the Saudi crown prince said that the premier could consider him the ambassador of Pakistan in Saudi Arabia. He said that the kingdom will whatever it can and will deliver that.
