At least three persons were electrocuted during torrential rains that lashed the city Friday. The tropical rain that has been continuing for past four days, resumed Friday afternoon and hampered the routine activities in the city as main and inner arteries of Saddar, Surjani, Landhi, Mauripur, North Karachi, Sharea-e-Faisal, Airport area, etc, inundated with rainwater that caused severe gridlocks and created difficulties for the commuters.
On the other hand rain brought down the mercury and subsequently the scorching weather has turned pleasant but it has also created serious difficulties for the Karachiites as the local administration once again failed to handle the post-rain situation.
The Met Department said that Nazimabad received the heaviest showers, where 55 millimeters of rain was recorded while 45mm in Saddar, 45mm in Surjani, 20mm in Landhi, 32mm in Mauripur, 27mm in North Karachi, 11mm in Sharea-e-Faisal and 1.4mm in the airport area. Several low-lying areas have been inundated, creating problems for the residents. A KE spokesman said that power was disconnected in several areas as a "precautionary measure." Police and rescue services reported three electrocution incidents in the city.
