Participants of the Seminar on Freedom and Peace organised by South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) condemn the arbitrary and unconstitutional steps of India which includes the scrapping of article 370, article 35 A, annexation of Jammu and Kashmir and its bifurcation. The steps taken by India were also against the UN Security Council Resolutions, Shimla accord and above all the aspirations of Kashmiri people.
The resolution expresses solidarity with the democratic forces and civil society of India in their struggle against the Communal and fascist designs of Hindutva and Modi government's ultimate goal of turning Republic of India into a Hindu Rashtra. The resolution demands lifting of curfew and ending of blockade of communication and release of political activists in Kashmir.
The resolution also demands that governments of India and Pakistan both should avoid violation of ceasefire agreement on Line of Control and should refrain from turning conflict of Kashmir into yet another limited or full scale Indo Pak war which will may bring subcontinent on the verge of a nuclear war. The resolution also shows its concerns on continuous violations of human and civil and civil rights and censorship on media and rise of authoritarian and sectarian forces in Pakistan.
The participants of the seminar through the resolution also appealed to the international community to stand up against the specter of war, possible nuclear holocaust, rising authoritarianism and repression of peoples right.
The seminar was addressed by secretary general SAFMA Imtiaz Alan, noted journalist Hussain Naqi, senior PPP leader Asif Khan, Awami Workers Party General Secretary Farooq Tariq and Assistant Professor Lahore University of Management Sciences Dr Taimur Rehman.
