A steep rise in prices of ginger, tomato, garlic, spices and other important kitchen items was witnessed during the first two-day of the Eid-ul-Azha, according to a survey carried by Business Recorder here on Tuesday. Taking full advantage of holidays on eve of the Eid, the buyers have complained about sky-high prices of essential commodities, saying that shopkeepers have increased prices manifold, due to which they were unable to purchase essentials on the festivities.
Ginger is being sold at Rs500 per kilogramme which was selling at Rs180-200 per kg before the Eid-ul-Azha, the survey noticed. Similarly, price of garlic has hit all time high on Eid as available at Rs250-300 per kg as compared to Rs150 per kg in few days back. Likewise, the price of tomato has also shot up at Rs100-120 per kilgramme which was available at Rs50 per kilogramme before the Eid. Price of green chili has almost doubled as being sold at Rs160 per kilogramme against the price of Rs80 per kilogram. Cucumber is being sold at Rs80 per kilogramme against the price of Rs40 per kilogramme in few days back. Lemon is being sold at Rs120 per kilogramme.
The survey further witnessed that price of red-potatoes has almost doubled as being sold at Rs 80-100 per kilogramme which was selling at Rs40 per kg before the Eid. Arvi was available at Rs 100 per kg, peas at Rs 150 per kg, apple, round and other gourds are being sold within range of Rs80-100 per kg, bitter gourd at Rs120 per kg. Bringle was priced at Rs60 per kg.
It added that price of spices had gone up excessively due to increase of their demand in the Eid-ul-Azha. Shopkeepers have charged consumers with exorbitantly. Sugar is being sold at Rs85-90 per kilogramme which was selling at Rs80 per kilogramme before the Eid. Gram flour (baisen) was available at Rs140 per kilogramme against the price of Rs120 per kilogrmame in the retail market.
Fresh milk is being sold at Rs130 per litre against the official fixed price of Rs90 per litre Yogurt was available at Rs120 per kilogramme against the official fixed rate of Rs80 per kg in local market. According to the survey, the prices of pulses/food grains were remained high-side in the retail market. Good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs 140-150 per kilogramme, while toota rice was available at Rs75-80 per kilogramme.
Dal mash is being sold at Rs170 and Rs190 per kg, dal channa was available at Rs130-140 per kg, white lobiya at Rs130 and Rs140 per kilogramme, red-bean at Rs130-140 per kg. The price big-size white channa was Rs140 and Rs160 per kilgoramme, while dal chilka (green) was being sold at Rs140 and Dal Chilka (Black) being sold at Rs130 per kilogramme. Moonge was available at Rs140 per kilogramme. Dhoti dal is being sold at Rs160.
According the survey, the price of cooking oil/ghee were remained high-side in the retail market as available within range of Rs170 and Rs180 per litre/kg, and Rs190 and Rs200 per litre/kg. Fruits are staple food, which had become costlier and complete reach out from purchasing power of common man.
As per survey, apples are being sold at Rs140-150 per kg, peach at Rs 120 per kilogramme, mangoes within range of Rs80 and Rs100, apricot at Rs150-160 per kilogramme, banana at Rs70-80 per dozen, black-coloured plums at Rs100-120 per kg, grapes are being sold at Rs200 per kilogramme, mukesh melon was being sold at Rs150-200 per piece with different size and guava was available at Rs80-100 per kilogramme.
