National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Tuesday approved a refund of over Rs 1 billion (Paisa 09 per unit) to consumers of Discos for June 2019 over charged in June 2019. The decision was taken by the Nepra Authority presided over by recently appointed Chairman, Tauseef H Farooqi whereas other members also assisted him.
Central Power Purchasing Agency- Guaranteed (CPPA-G), in its tariff petition had sought a reduction of paisa 06 per unit in tariff for Discos consumers based on monthly fuel price adjustment formula. According to the data submitted by the CPPA-G, the regulator was informed that total energy generated in June 2019 was 13,157.15 GWh at a total cost of Rs 72.314 billion (Rs 5.4962 per unit), however, the delivered electricity to Discos was 12,818.61 GWh. The total cost of delivered energy was Rs 66.400 or Rs 5.18 per unit.
Transmission losses have been recorded at 307.59 GWh estimated at Rs 0.1214 per unit. CPPA-G also sold 30.95 KWh electricity valued at Rs 627 million to Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
CPPA-G also sought previous adjustments/ supplemental charges of Rs 5.287 billion at the rate of Rs 0.4018 per unit. In June, total hydel generation was 3,840 GWh whose share in total generation is 29.19 per cent. The electricity generated on coal was 2,037 GWh- 15.5 percent of total generation at a cost of Rs 6.0921 per unit whereas generation from RFO was recorded at 694.84 GWh- 5.28 per cent of total generation at a cost of Rs 14.2871. National Power Control Centre (NPCC) did not operate any power plant on HSD.
The volume of natural gas-based electricity was 1,880.77 GWh-14 per cent of total generation at a cost of Rs 6.1945 per unit while RLNG-fired power plant generated 3,613.71 GWh- 27.47 percent of total generation at a cost of 10.2012 per unit. This shows electricity generated through RLNG was over Rs 4 less than the RFO-fired power plants. The electricity generated from nuclear power plant was 538.43 GWs- 4.09 per cent of total generation at tariff of Rs 1.1147 per unit. Pakistan also imported 48.79 GWh at a total cost of Rs 565 million or 11.5709 per unit while 11.53 GWh of electricity was generated through mixed sources at Rs 7.0322 per unit.
The wind mills also generated 393.14 GWh which was 2.99 per cent of total generation.
Generation from baggasse was recorded at 34.55 GWh at Rs 6.2089 per unit while solar plants generated 63.92 GWh of electricity.
On the basis of available data and requested supplemental charges, CPPA sought Rs 0.0669 per unit decrease in tariff for June 2019 on the basis of reference tariff of Rs 5.1130 per unit. However, Nepra approved an increase of Paisa 9 per unit after adjustment of some of the amounts sought by the CPPA-G as supplemental charges.
