Finally, England have won the World Cup

They say cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties. Can it be as uncertain as it was last Sunday at Lord's where epic final between England and New Zealand tied, Super Over tied and hosts England won on boundary count? Who had ever even heard of such a rule? Although New Zealand lost the final, they were not defeated on the ground; they were in fact defeated on the rule book. In other words, New Zealand were unlucky losers. The Kiwis had finished runner-up in the World Cup 2015 as well. How tragic. England had come close to victory in finals against Imran Khan's Pakistan in 1992, Australia in 1987 and West Indies in 1979, but they won the World Cup for the first time in 2019 as millions across the globe watched the nail-biting finish at Lord's. No doubt, it was a heart-stopping final. England captain Eoin Morgan's remarks were spot on: "I can't believe we have got over the line. It has been an extraordinary day... To do it with such a game, I don't think another like this in the history of cricket". England's victory seems to have given English cricket a new lease of life.
