A US-based organisation EcoSikh will launch its first-ever afforestation campaign titled 'Guru Nanak Sacred Forest' in Pakistan from tomorrow (Monday). The campaign named after Sikhism founder Baba Guru Nanak will be launched at Punjabi Language Research Centre in Kasur to mark his 550th birth anniversary. RESTORE, a Lahore-based afforestation firm is collaborating in this regard.
"Guru Nanak had given a clear message that we humans have a great deal to learn from nature. We have to consider nature as a sacred gift from the Creator," cited EcoSikh president Dr Rajwant Singh.
He further quoted Guru Nanak's sayings that air is the teacher, water is father and earth is our mother. He said Guru had drawn attention to the need to have a deep understanding of our relationship with nature. So, creating a forest in name of Guru Nanak is aimed at implementing his vision," he said.
Iqbal Qaisar, Director of Khoj Garh, the Punjabi language research centre Kasur, said it was the best way to pay tribute to Guru Nanak who was a nature lover. Guru Nanak healed people during his life and we continue to inherit his legacy to heal people and spread love in this part of the world. The CEO of RESTORE Bilal A. Chaudhry said that they were excited to work on this project in collaboration with EcoSikh.
