On the directions of Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Sunday commenced inspection drive of food points situated at the motorway and highways. Food safety teams under the supervision of PFA Director General Captain Muhammad Usman (R) have visited several service areas and shut down three restaurants as well as punished one food business operators with a fine ticket. PFA's enforcement teams thoroughly examined the kitchen, warehouse and storage area of the hotels, restaurants, snack bars, tuck shops, cafes and marts in a daylong operation. The purpose behind the inspection was examined the food quality, hygiene issues, food safety standards by ensuring the provision of healthy and safe food for the commuters.
Muhammad Usman said that Fri Chicks (fast food restaurant) was sealed owing to substandard meat and an abundance of insects. The team also witnessed poor storage system for storing meat. PFA also sealed a famous broast chicken restaurant for having expired cooking oil. He further said that PFA has sealed Meezab Hotel on Motorway (M2) at Sukheki service area, for not complying with the authority's instructions. Moreover, Palm Inn Restaurant has been fined Rs25, 000 for failing to produce a record of oil discard.
The director general said that PFA has increased the number of inspections on motorway, grand trunk road and recreational places whereas authority would be checked food points on a weekly basis. Usman said that PFA has been completed planning to ensure the provision of the best food in the market for commuters as per the vision of Punjab Government.
