Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given go-ahead to 1223 candidates for contesting general elections 2018 from Karachi for 65 seats of national and provincial assemblies. However, the nomination papers of 950 candidates were either withdrawn or rejected. Some 571 nomination papers were received for 21 seats of National Assembly (NA) of which 73 candidates were rejected while 156 candidates withdrew their nomination papers.
Similarly, 1602 candidates had submitted papers for 44 provincial assembly (PA) seats but 520 candidates withdrew their nominations while 159 candidates faced rejections. As the scrutiny process has completed, now 322 candidates are contesting general elections from Karachi on 21 NA seats while 901 candidates are going to test their luck for 44 PA seats on July 25.
The ECP received 263 nominations, 77 for three NA and 186 for five PA seats in District Malir. However, the papers of 11 candidates for NA and 15 for PA were rejected while 16 candidates of NA and 61 of PA withdrew nominations. As a result, 160 candidates 50 for three NA seats and 110 for five PA seats will go into general elections at District Malir.
In Korangi District, 341 nominations, 89 for three NA and 252 for seven PA seats were submitted. However, the papers of 10 candidates for NA and 39 for PA were rejected while 29 candidates of NA and 75 of PA withdrew nominations. Therefore, 188 candidates 50 for three NA seats and 110 for five PA seats will contest general elections.
In District East, 461 nominations, 118 for four NA and 343 for eight PA seats were submitted. However, the papers of 18 candidates for NA and 43 for PA were rejected while 27 candidates of NA and 117 of PA withdrew nominations. Therefore, 256 candidates 73 for four NA seats and 183 for eight PA seats will participate in general elections from District East.
In South District, 262 nominations, 67 for two NA and 195 for five PA seats were submitted. However, the papers of 6 candidates for NA and 13 for PA were rejected while 22 candidates of NA and 71 of PA withdrew nominations. As a result, the contest will be done between 150 candidates 39 for two NA seats and 111 for five PA seats in general elections 2018 at District South.
In District West, 484 nominations, 120 for five NA and 364 for 11 PA seats were submitted. However, the papers of 20 candidates for NA and 22 for PA were rejected while 37 candidates of NA and 120 of PA withdrew nominations. Therefore, 243 candidates 43 for five NA seats and 200 for 11 PA seats will go into general elections from District West.
In District Central, 362 nominations, 100 for four NA and 262 for eight PA seats were submitted. However, the papers of 8 candidates for NA and 27 for PA were rejected while 25 candidates of NA and 76 of PA withdrew nominations. Finally, 226 candidates 67 for four NA seats and 159 for eight PA seats will contest general elections in District Central.
