Rector, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKIECT) Jehangir Bashar has said on Saturday that about 7500 students from all over the country will appear in the Institute's entry test on Sunday (today). The GIKIECT's entry test centres have been established in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Multan, Peshawar and Quetta. The test is simultaneously arranged across the country and the students of all regions have been facilitated to test their knowledge.
Bashar said that the disciplines now taught in GIK Institute are Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (Power), Electrical Engineering (Electronics), Engineering Sciences, Computer Engineering, Material Engineering (Nanotechnology), Material Engineering (Manufacturing), Computer Science and Management Sciences.
He said the deputed staff reached their respective centres a day before the test day and finalized arrangements to conduct the admission test in a befitting manner. The test is being held under the supervision of entry test committee's members.
"Successful students will be offered admissions in aforementioned disciplines of engineering and management sciences," he said, adding that there is no reserved quota and all students are selected purely on merit. He said score in the entry test of each student will determine his/her admission in any discipline of engineering and management sciences.
Since its establishment in 1993, the Institute has provided financial assistance to the needy students. Total 129 scholarships are provided to the fresh inducted students. About 45 scholarships are given to needy students by GIK Institute from its own resources. The scholarships offered are: 20 each by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government and Ihsan Trust Qarze Hasna, 10 each by Punjab Educational Endowment Fund and FATA Scholarship, five each by GIK Alumni Association and Habbah Educational Trust, three each by GIK Merit Scholarship and Frontier Education Foundation, two each by Government of Balochistan and Sindh Endowment Fund Scholarship, and one scholarship each by Dr. H.M Yusaf Scholarship, Dr. Razia Raouf Scholarship, Lucky Cement Pvt. Ltd, HBL Platinum Scholarship and Squeaks Foundation Scholarship.
