Retired England star David Beckham's new Major League Soccer club in Miami will soon announce a name, logo and team colors, the Miami Herald reported Thursday. Futbol Club Internacional de Miami (Inter Miami), Futbol Club Atletico Miami (Atletico Miami) and Miami Freedom are among names reported to be on the short list for consideration.
"We are just going through final vetting and trademark issues and all those announcements are imminent," said Jorge Mas, a partner of the iconic English midfielder in the expansion squad.
Mas also says he has a final list of candidates for general manager with hopes of filling that post by the end of July.
Beckham's team is also expected to begin interviewing candidates for the team's first coach, with European reports linking Carlo Ancelotti, Zinedine Zidane and Bruce Arena to the job. Former Bayern Munich boss Ancelotti, who just took a job with Napoli, worked with Beckham at Paris Saint-Germain while French legend Zidane, who played with Beckham in Spain, stepped down as Real Madrid coach after guiding the club to a third consecutive Champions League trophy.
Arena, who guided the US World Cup teams in 2002 and 2006, coached Beckham with the Los Angeles Galaxy and has won five MLS Cup titles. He returned to guide the American side in a failed bid to qualify for this year's world Cup.
Mas also said details and drawings of the team's latest stadium plan will be revealed around July 12, when Beckham is expected to meet with city commissioners.
