Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam has stressed the need for arranging refresher and short training courses for the Elite Force personnel for a short period of three, five and seven days at police station level through which they could finalise pre-election security arrangements.
Addressing a session of senior officers of the Elite Force at the Central Police Office (CPO) on Thursday, the IGP said that trainers and other officers should play their role for the capacity building of young personnel to enhance the security management regarding polling duties with the help of different courses.
Additional IG (AIG) Elite Force Shahid Hanif, DIG Elite Afzal Mehmood Butt, Commandant Elite Training School Colonel Pervaiz Iqbal, Director SOU Colonel Saad Saleem (retd), Deputy Director Monitoring Mehmood-ul-Hassan Gillani and SP Headquarters Elite Syed Jaffar Abbas and some other senior officers also attended the session.
The IG directed the AIG Elite to immediately conduct a video-link conference with all RPOs and DPOs and conclude all pre-election trainings in all the districts and regions of Punjab under their supervision. To ensure transparent election in peaceful environment, we should have support of the elite force' commandos and they will be deployed for the security of sensitive polling stations, he added.
"Before elections, all possible measures should be taken to enhance professional skills of the force in all districts," the IGP said, adding that special attention should be given to sensitive polling stations.
He said prompt action should be taken against individuals or political parties who will be trying to sabotage peace, violates law or creates obstruction in the polling process.
Meanwhile, IG Syed Kaleem Imam also met IG Railways Police Dr Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Khan at the CPO and both of them discussed areas of cooperation and different common interest. IGP Kaleem was of the opinion that railway police should take effective steps to restrict movement of criminals and anti-social elements with the collaboration of the Punjab police.
He said both the police forces should enhance mutual cooperation to increase capacity building of its officials.
"Being the provincial police chief, I have adopted better policies to resolve problems of my force because it is crystal clear that if head of department cares about his force it will automatically enhance morale of the force," IGP Kaleem told his counterpart.
