Matter referred to parliamentary body: PML-N, PTI fail to develop consensus over Punjab caretaker CM's name

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have failed to develop consensus over the name of caretaker Punjab chief minister and the matter has been referred to the parliamentary committee for decision in this regard.
Both the parties have forwarded names to the Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal for the constitution of the parliamentary committee. The parliamentary committee will be bound to finalise the matter within two days failing which the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will decide the name of caretaker Punjab chief minister.
The sources claimed that the PTI has given the names of Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed, Shoaib Siddiqui and Syed Sibtain as members of the parliamentary committee while the PML-N has nominated Rana Sanaullah, Malik Ahmad Khan and Khawaja Imran Nazir. The sources claimed that Rana Sanaullah contacted Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed and discussed the names of caretaker chief minister. Since both the parties remained stick to their names, there was no other option except to refer the matter to the parliamentary committee, the sources added.
Rana Sanaullah, the sources said has expressed apprehension that the parliamentary committee will also fail in bringing a consensus candidate. In this case, the final verdict in the matter will be made by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
On the other hand, speaker Rana Iqbal will issue a notification pertaining to constitution of six-member parliamentary committee on Monday (today). The parliamentary committee will be bound to make the decision within two days. Speaking to the media, former opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed said two names were finalised for the interim slot in a meeting with party chief Imran Khan.
"Since the government and opposition could not reach consensus on a name, the decision will be taken by a parliamentary committee," he said. "We have nominated Hasan Askari Rizvi and Ayaz Amir for caretaker chief minister," he added. The PML-N had already given names of former Naval Chief Muhammad Zakaullah, former DG IB Aftab Sultan, former IGP Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar and former Justice Sair Ali.
