Speakers at consultative dialogue urged the government to expedite the process of mainstreaming of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and its merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so that the tribal region will bring at par to other parts of the country. A Roundtable discussion on "Political participation, defining women role in decision-making," organized by Qabaili Khor(tribal sister) held here at Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS) University of Peshawar on Wednesday.
Jamil Chitrali, an academician, Ashraf Ali, Noreen Naseer, civil society women activists Gulalai Ismail and Sana Ijaz, tribal journalists, Safdar Dawar, Shams Mohmand, women and students from tribal areas were main speakers at the function.
Speakers stressed the need for implementation of compulsory basic education for girls in tribal areas. They viewed that the tribal people have deprived from all fundamental rights due to enforcement of the British-era, the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) Act in Fata.
The participants said that Fata had deliberately kept backwards in all fields. They said that education facility was not available in the tribal region.
They called for peaceful solution of the tribal issue as well as rebuilding of the damaged schools in Fata.
Sana Ijaz and Gulalai Ismail demanded the complete abolishment of the FCR from the tribal region to ensure all basic rights to the tribal people. They also urged the government to expedite process of Fata mainstreaming and its merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Shams Mohmand and Safdar Dawar stressed the need for creating awareness about promotion of female education in the tribal region, besides government should take serious steps for reconstruction of the damaged educational institutions.
They voiced concern over ignoring women during reforms process in Fata.
