A local cellular company Wednesday assured the top court that it will provide one million rupees to each family of six labourers killed in district Kharan of Balochistan. Six labourers of Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (Ufone) were killed while installing the company's cell phone tower due to firing by the terrorists in Kharan on May 3, 2018.
The Ufone lawyer apprised the court that widows of three assassinated labourers will be provided Rs 20,000 per month as regular monthly financial assistance. He said the company will also bear the educational expenses of children of all the deceased labourers.
With regard to a labourer who got severely injured in the gunfire, the lawyer stated that he had been admitted in a hospital in Lahore, where his treatment is underway.
After hearing the lawyer, a two-member bench comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, directed Ufone to prepare and submit a complete financial plan for compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased and injured labourers by today (Thursday).
The court also directed the additional advocate generals of Punjab and Balochistan to check the measures the governments of their respective provinces are taking for the compensation to the families of the deceased and the injured labourer and submit reports by today (Thursday).
As many as six labourers belonging to district Okara of Punjab were gunned down by the unidentified motorcyclists, besides severely injuring another one on May 3. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken suo motu notice of the incident on May 5.
