Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday quashed the letter of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which restrained Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to make payments to China International for undertaking dredging work in the port area.
SHC resumed the hearing on the case after China International pleaded before the court against NAB's letter that restrained the KPT to pay the amount to China International for carrying out dredging work.
NAB in its letter to KPT stated that complaints have been received with the bureau viz-a-viz the dredging work and directed it to stop the payment to China International of dredging contract. The letter stated that it has been investigating the matter so no further payment should be made till the completion of inquiry.
The counsel for China International submitted before the court that NAB could not issue orders and prayed that KPT should be directed to pay the amount to his client.
Meanwhile, SHC on Monday turned down the bail applications of former Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and co-accused Masood Hashmi in a case pertaining to embezzlement of funds while awarding the government advertisements. Court, however approved the bail application of two other accused - Asif Sikandar and Mohammad Hanif - in this case by ordering them to furnish a Rs 1.5 million surety bonds each with the court.
Sharjeel Memon prayed before the court for approving his bail application on medical grounds after he was booked in a case for misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 5.77 billion while awarding the government advertisements.
