The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Thursday sealed two godowns and two shops on the charges of selling eatables after changing the expiry date and pasting new labels while a bakery production unit and water filtration plan was sealed for violation of rules of hygiene.
The Authority's raiding teams also imposed a collective fine of Rs 117,000 on nine other food points on the charges of selling substandard food while 73 other food points were issued warning to improve their working.
PFA Director Operations Rafia Haider told newspersons that after receiving information from the intelligence wing that distributor Abdul Rasheed was involved in selling expired eatables the teams raided the place and sealed two godowns and two shops and recovered two truckloads which were ready to be dispatched which included chips, trophies, biscuits and other snacks. The ring working in these godowns was involved in pasting labels with fresh date of expiry on already expired items.
The team also arrested three people working in the godowns while an FIR was also launched with the police station concerned against those involved in it. The food items taken into custody were wasted on the spot.
