The Punjab government has approved an expenditure of Rs 16.5 billion to improve Punjab Police's operational efficiency by deploying new hardware using up-to-date technology that will enable the Police to adopt more efficient working practices and new operating concepts. The approval was given in 61st meeting of Punjab Provincial Development Working Party presided over by Chairman P&D Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan here on Friday.
The approved development schemes included: Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control & Communication (PPIC3), Centre, Lahore (Revised) at the cost of Rs 16,077 million (Information Tech) and Construction of Infrastructure of Special Protection Unit Punjab; Construction of SPU Provincial HQ, Lahore at the cost of Rs 442.000 million.
Official sources told Business Recorder that the provincial government is ensuring establishment, development and maintenance of an integrated command, control and communication system (PPIC3) for Police in major cities of the province for public safety. The role of the Police will fundamentally change by bringing together various elements of Punjab Police operation to work as a more unified team.
They said that the Modern infrastructure will provide real-time information and intelligence; high quality emergency response systems to the public; Facilitate evidence based decision making in operationally critical situations within the Punjab Police departments; ensure seamless service delivery to the public; optimize cross agency coordination, communication, and effectiveness of public safety and emergency services delivery.
