Arrangements are afoot to improve and streamline the 'Traffic System' in populous industrial and business hub of Faisalabad by implementing a number of constructive schemes with financial assistance of the Faisalabad Municipal Corporation and other local donors. This was stated by the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Husnain Haider, while talking to the media.
CTO mentioned that he had recently met the Faisalabad Mayor Abdur Razzaq Malik, to help replacing 'Faulty Traffic Signals' in the city which was must for smooth running of the traffic in this congested city. The Mayor FMC very kindly allocated a sum of Rs 15 million for the installation of improvised Traffic Signals and the installation of new traffic signals at 28 vital points of the city has been undertaken and it would be accomplished within 2 months' time.
To overcome the acute shortage of parking places in Faisalabad, the CTO stressed the need for construction of 'Parking Plazas' outside all the 8 main bazars of the City to eliminate the traffic hazards due to parking of Vehicles on main roads of Faisalabad.
He told that parking of Cars and Motor Cycles in the main bazars of the city had badly hindered the smooth running of traffic in these main markets and even the pedestrians and ladies were experiencing great inconvenience, while visiting the surrounding areas of main clock tower for shopping but now the City Traffic Police have cleared all the obstacles which were hindering the smooth running of the traffic in this locality. He added that after leaving 25 percent space for vehicles parking in these main bazars, the rest place of the road has been vacated for use of visiting commuters and pedestrians.
Responding to a question about negligent and speedy driving on city roads which lead to increase in fatal accidents, the chief traffic Officer told that the City Traffic Police would very shortly install 'Speed Guns' at all the 8 important roads around the city which would help considerably decrease the traffic accidents. He told that 2 mobile speed guns were being utilized for recording the speed of vehicles while 6 more will reach Faisalabad to be installed at all the important roads leading to the city.
CTO, Syed Husnain Haider, further stated that the City Traffic Police was installing 6 'Auto Elevator Machines' in Faisalabad on the pattern of Lahore to provide some immediate relief for car parking in the urban areas of Faisalabad. Each auto elevator machines shall have the capacity of carrying 60 vehicles and hence the car parking problems of the citizens will be solved to some extent.
Regarding the holding of extensive lectures on traffic rules, the chief traffic officer told that education wing of the city traffic police has been directed to hold frequent seminars and symposiums in the universities and colleges of Faisalabad to acquaint their students with traffic rules and regulations.
Responding to yet another question, the CTO told that the Traffic Police would continue its periodical crack-down against underage drivers, negligent and rash driving and the use of cell phones and pressure horns during driving. He told that during a 3-day drive, the City Traffic Police held 4337 underage boys for driving motor cycles without possessing valid Driving License. He added that a fine of rupees 1650400 was realized from the traffic offenders including the underage drivers. During this crackdown, the traffic police removed 3196 pressure horns from Vehicles and a fine of rupees 17,73,550 was collected from these traffic rules violators. He said this crackdown would very shortly be started again in order to help avert growing fatal traffic accidents in Faisalabad District.
