A meeting of National Assembly's Special Committee on Delimitation of Constituencies ended inconclusive on Monday as the panel is clueless about finding a solutiion to the complicated issue. The committee met here in the convener-ship of MNA Daniyal Aziz and discussed the matters related to delimitation pertaining to Balochistan where the number of general seats has been increased by three and now the province will have 17 seats.
In Balochistan, with a total population of 12,344,739 in 34 districts, one seat of the National Assembly has been allocated for a population of 771,546 while one seat of the provincial assembly has been allocated for a population of 242,054.
As many as 163,541 blocks had been marked countrywide to conduct the 6th census whereas one percent to five percent audit of the census blocks by a third-party had been approved by the Council of Common Interests. While discussing the agenda pertaining to the issue of grievances/reservations of the members of National Assembly regarding recently carried out delimitation by the Election Commission of Pakistan, the committee expressed deep concern on the delimitation.
The meeting of the special committee will be held again today (Tuesday) and it will make recommendations which will later be deliberated upon by the committee headed by NA Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi. The committee also discussed the proposals and objections pertaining to delimitation of constituencies. After threadbare discussions, the panel will make recommendations to the House, said the convener of the special committee.
