The US aid 'figures'

Published January 12, 2018 Updated January 12, 2018 12:00am

Business Recorder has been consistently focusing on the likely impact of the US aid suspension through its op-eds and editorials in an impressive manner. It has been noticed that some senior officials-unlike their President Donald Trump-have been responding to the evolving US-Pakistan relationship following Trump's highly controversial New Year tweet in somewhat rational manner: they express their desire to remain in contact with the Pakistan at various levels with a view to ending the current "standoff" between the two countries.
The US President has said that the aid given cumulatively to Pakistan is $33 billion over the last fifteen years. A number of government and non-government economists have been fiercely contesting the US claim in this regard. Ultimately, truth will prevail. It is about time Trump revisited his strategy in relation to Pakistan. Economic coercion won't work.
