The Urdu translation of Aslam Siddiqui's book "Life and Times of a Pakistani Citizen" was launched here at Arts Council on Friday. The Urdu version titled 'Shakista Tabeer: Aik Pakistani ki Sargasht' was translated by Dr Shershah Syed whose work was assisted by Dr Tabinda Azam, daughter of author Aslam Siddiqui.
The book is chronicle of the miseries inflicted on the real people of Pakistan by political elite and feudal lords. The book launch ceremony was presided over by Director Quaid-e-Azam Academy Khuwaja Razi Haider, who in his remarks paid tribute to the author and translator, saying that the book focuses multi dimensional issues of Pakistan that it has faced after independence.
He said author has presented a novel based narrative in his book that depicts ruminations of him. In his address, renowned writer Anwar Maqsood said the author has openly criticized the elite that ruled Pakistan over the course of time since its independence.
"Siddiqui has openly and bluntly discussed the issues that the country has faced since partition," Maqsood said. Jawaid Jabbar said that translation of author's book is formidable and exemplary work done by the translator. "By reading Urdu version, you can capture the essence of original English version of the book," Jabar remarked.
Elusively and passionately written, he said, the book has featured the history of Pakistan. Dr Tabinda Azam said his father wanted to disseminate the historical knowledge to the youngsters after country's independence. "My father has discussed post partition issues in his book," she underlined.
