During the outgoing calendar year 2017, the incidents of terrorism and other crimes registered visible decline and situation as compared to last ten years remained peaceful in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said annual police report.
The report said that terrorism remained 51% less as compared to last ten years as last year a total of 258 incidents of terrorism were occurred while during the outgoing year the number was 126. During current year, only three big incidents of terrorism were occurred, which include the incidents of attacks on Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Ashraf Noor, Major Jamal and Agriculture Training Institute (ATI).
During the year, the Counter Terrorist Department (CTD) arrested 428 terrorists wanted in connections with different cases, while investigations was completed in 350 cases and challan were presented in the courts. Similarly, during the year, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police foiled 95 bids of terrorism and arrested 179 terrorists including several carrying head money. During different operations, the police have also recovered 15 kidnapped persons safely.
Furthermore, the CTD on intelligence conducted more than thousand operations and arrested 1346 suspects while 278 hand grenades, 352 kilogram explosive material. 9 suicide jackets and automatic weapons were also taken into possession. Similarly, the incidents of extortion also went down by 27 percent. Under the National Action Plan (NAP), the police in different parts of the province conducted a total of 12,248 search and strike operations and arrested 76,244 suspects while 18,181 weapons of different kind and 476,000 cartridges were also recovered.
During the year, 378,940 houses were also checked and 12,891 FIRs were filed on the lack of rent forms while 152 FIRs were registered against hotels for not verification of their guests. 77,983 snap checking was carried out during which 194,774 suspects were arrested and 10,944 weapons of different kind and 368,588 cartridges were also recovered.
The report said that other routine crimes during the current year also registered visible decline. The incidents of abduction registered 10 percent decrease, dacoities 34 percent, car-theft 28 percent and vehicle snatching by 36 per cent respectively. The incidents of murder and attempted murder registered 7 and 10 per cent decline respectively. However, the FIRs of aerial firing during current calendar remained higher as compared to last year.
During the year, police has achieved visible success against narcotics and successful operations were conducted against the professional drug peddlers. The police registered 37,666 cases against drug peddlers and 39,497 persons were arrested in this connection while 117 persons were arrested on daily basis.
The police during the year recovered 15,826 kg of charas. 695 kg heroin-opium, 19 kg ice drug, 26,502 bottles of liquor and 9,498 litre of liquor while 735 drug peddlers were brought to justice during the special crackdown in this regard.
