Minister's assurance to Smeda

Published November 29, 2017 Updated November 29, 2017 12:00am

Minister of State for Industries and Production Sardar Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari on Tuesday assured to make SMEDA funding as important part of the government's annual development plan. The Minister gave this assurance during a briefing at the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) head office. SMEDA chief executive officer Sher Ayub Khan gave a detailed presentation on the SMEDA's initiatives for development of SMEs in the country.
He said the poverty and unemployment prevailing in the country cannot be controlled without promoting small industries. To achieve this goal, the government will have to strengthen SMEDA's role, he said. Leghari also assured to support the new development initiatives through Ministry of Industries and Production. He, however, suggested evolving a mechanism to monitor growth of growing business sector so as to avoid unnecessary saturation and keep the level of a particular business's expansion within limits of market demand.
Sardar Arshad Khan Laghari pointed out that Pakistan, being an agricultural country, has a great potential in dairy and livestock sector. "We should also make a comprehensive strategy to up-grade this sector on modern lines, he said and appreciated the SMEDA's "Controlled Shed Program" for dairy farming. He urged to expand this program among farmers' community across the country.
Sher Ayub Khan in his presentation briefed about the services, projects and special initiatives being run by SMEDA to promote SMEs. Besides providing SMEs with the technical, management and marketing support, SMEDA has set up a network of common facility centres and help desks in all major business cities, he added.
