Microsoft rolls out new emoji-imitating app

In an effort to make machine learning fun, Microsoft has launched a new free app that will let users to recreate an emoji and rate them on how well they did.

Tech giant Microsoft has launched a new free Windows app called Emoji8, which uses machine learning technology to guess the user’s facial expression when imitating an emoji.

Emoji8 gives user an emoji to mimic; it then analyzes the video feed from their computer’s webcam. The app then tells user their percentage of accuracy by giving them a score of how well they performed in recreating the particular emoji. The fun doesn’t just end there, Emoji8 then further provides user the option of creating a GIF with some of their ‘craziest facial expressions’ for sharing it on social media site Twitter.

What’s more interesting is that Emoji8 doesn’t even require internet. The app is available for free in the Microsoft Store, however, the user must be using Windows 10 October 2018 Update, informed Microsoft in its blog post.

Microsoft claims that Emoji8 is supposed to show how quick and flexible its machine learning expertise is. With Emoji8, Microsoft aims to show how its Windows Machine Learning APIs can be used to build apps and ‘make machine learning fun and approachable’, wrote Mashable.

“This app will give you a great end-to-end example of how you can use the Windows ML APIs to create simple yet magical experiences,” wrote the company.
