ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/ FM) Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation (CCoP) to review progress on the privatisation of various power Distribution Companies (Discos).

The meeting reviewed progress on the privatisation of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), and Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), and directed the Privatisation Commission to complete the consultation process with the Power Division by early next week for a decision by the CCoP.

The Committee also considered the inclusion of additional entities in the privatisation programme and approved the proposals of the Privatisation Division with modifications. The budget of the Privatisation Commission was also presented and approved with amendments. The CCoP also reviewed the annual privatisation programme and the way forward and directed the Commission to expedite the process.

The DPM/ FM directed all concerned authorities to ensure coordinated and timely action, accelerate the privatisation process, and maintain momentum on the Government’s broader agenda of structural reforms, improving efficiency, and strengthening economic management.

The Minister for Power, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Power, Secretary Privatisation Division, Secretary Privatisation Commission, Secretary Commerce, Secretary Cabinet, Special Secretary Industries & Production, as well as senior officials from the Ministries of Defence and Finance, FBR, SECP, and SBP, attended the meeting.
