ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim said on Thursday, that Gems & Jewellery Center will be set up with the collaboration of the Rawalpindi Chamber in the region to promote the gems industry.
Rawalpindi Chamber is playing pivotal role for the economic uplift of the country and government will assist the Chamber in this regard, he stated this while talking to the mediamen as a chief guest during the launching ceremony of the Second Single Country Expo Dhakka,
Amin Fahim said that development of trading activities in the SAARC Region was a great achievement of RCCI and government applauded such steps taken by the said Chamber for strengthening national exchequer.
He further said that government is in favour of boosting trade relations with SAARC States including India and granting MFN Status to India is the recent example of government's commitments in this regard. He ensured that in MFN issue govt will provide level playing pitch for local business community to compete with Indian products in the International trade markets.
He vowed that Ministry of Commerce will support RCCI's demand of setting up gems & jewellery center in the region.
Speaking on the occasion President RCCI Jawed Akhtar Bhatti said that 5 days second single country expo 2012 will be kicked off from May 23-27 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. "70 companies and 200 trade delegations will participate in the Expo and more then 70 stalls would be set up".
He further said that basic purpose behind organizing the Expo is to promote local goods in the Bangladeshi trade market. Jawed Bhatti said that the said Expo is being solely organized by the Rawalpindi Chamber from its own resources.
He said that RCCI is fully aware of the importance of promotion of trade activities in the SAARC region. He further said that share of trade volume among the SAARC countries is around 5 per cent which is very low, "Our utmost efforts is to enhance the business activities with the said states", he added.
