LONDON: Reckitt Benckiser, the household products and drugs group, logged soaring annual profits on Wednesday boosted by emerging markets, in the first set of results under its new Indian-born chief executive.
The Anglo-Dutch maker of Dettol surface cleaners, Durex condoms and Nurofen pain relief pills, said net profit rose 11 percent to £1.745 billion (2.0 billion euros, $2.77 billion) last year, compared with 2010.
Turnover swelled by 12 percent to £9.49 billion, boosted by the group's so-called "powerbrand" products that include Air Wick air fresheners, Finish dishwasher products and Strepsils throat lozenges.
"Reckitt Benckiser delivered another strong year ... in an increasingly tough environment," said chief executive Rakesh Kapoor, who took over in September following the shock resignation of predecessor Bart Becht.
He added: "Growth was driven in particular by excellent growth in emerging markets, and growth in our powerbrands."
