LONDON: European stock markets closed down but off early lows on Thursday, with London's FTSE 100 index of leading shares slipping just 0.06 percent to 5,919.98 points.
In Paris, the CAC 40 edged down 0.09 percent to 4,009.64 points while in Frankfurt the DAX lost 0.89 percent to 7,130.50 points.
