Expressing dismay over the move of the provincial government of Sindh to surrender the services of Inspector General of Sindh Police Allah Dino Khwaja back to the federal government, Pasban-e-Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor on Saturday asked why honest and competent cops and officers are not welcome in Sindh province.
In a statement, he questioned, "Why the provincial regime is bent to patron and promote the available lot of the crooked, dishonest and incompetent people?" He said, "IGP A D Khwaja was considered as relatively honest and competent police officer and he was fighting tooth and nail to reduce the mega corruption and irregularities in Sindh police and make it a civilised and professional police service."
He said, "Staunch resistance of Khwaja to the political appointments in Sindh police is an open secret. However, the corruption kings and queens of Sindh were unhappy with him as he had plainly refused to recruit the political cadres of the ruling party in police department."
Altaf Shakoor said, "It is an irony that when the governments of other provinces are trying to show the people their 'honest' faces in the wake of coming general elections and they are eagerly posting relatively honest and capable officers on the key posts, why in Sindh province, the corruption mafia is bent to further expose it before the masses at this crucial time."
He said, "The people of Sindh fully know the faces of the corruption kings and queens of this ill-fated province, who are looting the province and its people with both hands behind a thin veil of catchy slogans." He said, "Like whole Pakistan, Sindh also needs a better administration to serve the masses. It is no secret now that the administrative structure of government in Sindh is not fully functional and the real decisions are made by the corruption mafia and their agents sitting inside the country and living abroad. This sorrow state of affairs should be changed for good in the larger interest of the poor people of Sindh."
He appealed to the apex judiciary to take notice of the mega corruption in Sindh and blatant violations of peoples' rights and interests. He said, "Giving an honest, competent and efficient machinery to run the government affairs is a constitutional responsibility of federal and provincial governments."
He said, "Tolerating corrupt and dishonest officers and posting them on the key slots is a grave violation of the basic spirit of the constitution of Pakistan and the apex courts may play their inbuilt responsibility to oversee and ensure that the constitution of the country is being practiced in letter and spirit."
He said, "Corrupt governments and the Constitution of Pakistan could not go together. He said when we tolerate, patronise and promote the crooked elements we betray to the souls of the founding fathers of this otherwise blessed nation. For the sake of our coming generations we should play our individual and collective roles to make Pakistan a corruption-free society."
