Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Ali Haider Zaidi on Monday wrote a letter to Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry with reference to the Panama case and the NAB's role in this regard. Zaidi, who is the president of the party's Karachi chapter, wrote that Supreme Court's remarks on the NAB were enough to show its real face and make someone ashamed. He stated that NAB being the guard of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's corruption has taken the country to the state where majority has no access to basic rights.
Recalling the remarks made by the apex court judges during a hearing of Panama Leaks, the PTI leader said anyone with an iota of a conscience would have resigned immediately when a Supreme Court judge remarked, "NAB had passed away for us today." "But you are still around and have no remorse over what you have been doing as chairman NAB," he regretted.
He wrote that NAB must stop taking pride on its 70 percent conviction rate as it has miserably failed to take any action against the government, adding if the corrupt elements of the ruling elite become "untouchables" similar to the notorious American gangster Al Capone, then elimination or substantial reduction of corruption in this society is just a pipe dream. He wrote that NAB chairman draws hefty salary from taxpayers' money, but his poor response before a meeting of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of National Assembly and then before Supreme Court of Pakistan, showed he is not capable for the slot.
"You are either not capable for the slot of chairman or he is part and parcel of the corrupt system which has eroded the very foundation of this country...instead of serving the masses, the NAB chairman is busy serving his bosses at Raiwind," he alleged.
He wrote that the job of NAB's chairman is to round up the corrupt but under plea bargain; the NAB chairman is paving the way for those involved in massive corruption.
"While corruption continues to seep into our society, mega projects continue to generate kickbacks and commissions, but NAB is acting as a silent spectator," he further alleged.
