The business community of Southern Punjab urged the government to pay rebate on the export of surplus wheat to ensure the disposal of stock before the coming wheat season otherwise there would be no space to store the wheat in the country. Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) has alleged that exporters of wheat and wheat products are withdrawing themselves from the process of export because of non-payment of rebate on wheat export announced by the government.
They claimed the State Bank of Pakistan, federal and provincial governments were taking no interest in wheat export process and no flour mill had been paid rebate amount on its exports since June 2016. PFMA made a number of appeals in this regard to the government and departments concerned but of no avail. They said delay in payment of rebate to the flour mills was equal to their exploitation and these negative steps of the Punjab Food department were seriously hampering the export process.
