The senior-most judge of the apex court, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar will take over from incumbent Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali who is set to retire today (December 31). Justice Mian Saqib Nisar will be sworn in as 25th Chief Justice of Pakistan by President Mamnoon Hussain at an elegant function in Presidency.
Sixty-two years, eleven months and thirteen days old Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was a member of the Supreme Court bench which heard the case against 21st Constitution Amendment, the amendment which authorised the establishment of military courts to hear terrorism cases after the incident which killed 141 people including 132 children in a school in Peshawar on 16 December 2014.
He also heard the case where Pakistan Railways' land worth Rs 10 billion was allotted to Royal Palm Golf Club by Musharraf government which federal government of Nawaz Sharif wanted back in 2014. Born on January 18, 1954, he would have the tenure as Chief Justice of Pakistan for a little over two years and seventeen days and would retire in January 2019. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar joined legal profession as an advocate on May 02, 1980 and then was enrolled as an advocate of the High Court in 1982 and as Advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1994. He was elevated as the Judge of the Lahore High Court on May 22, 1998 and of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on February 18, 2010.
