The 140th birth anniversary of the father of the nation Muhammad Ali Jinnah was celebrated across the country amid national zest and fervour. Main event was held at the mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan whom Pakistani nation calls great leader (Quaid-e-Azam).
The day began with special prays and recitations from Holy Quran at his grave. The change-of-guards ceremony was main function of the day as the cadets from Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul took charge amid high security arrangements in and around the tomb of Quaid-e-Azam.
Commandant PMA Kakul Major General Abdullah Dogar was the chief guest at the event. He laid floral wreaths at the Quaid's grave, and offered Fateha.
On the other hand, national flags were hoisted at the top of the public and private buildings to pay homage to the father of the nation. Various events, including seminars, debates, and exhibitions, were also held.
Educational Institutions remained closed as it was Sunday. Federal Government announced holiday to mark the day. Hundreds of people, mostly youth, also thronged the mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah along with his cabinet members visited the mausoleum and so did former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party. They laid floral wreaths at the grave and then offered fateha.
Sindh Chief Minister said in his message that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah gave a clear path and principals and we can make our country developed and prosperous following his path. He called for unity and cohesion for the progress of homeland.
Speaking to media on this occasion, Murad Shah said, opponents of the PPP were worried due to Zardari's return from abroad.
"We are fortunate that we have a visionary leader such as Jinnah who snatched freedom through his untiring political struggle and skills," Bilawal said, in his message. He pledged to uphold the vision of the founder of the nation saying that Pakistan achieved independence from the imperial yoke seven decades ago through a democratic struggle, but the untimely death of the nation's greatest statesman impeded the journey to a democratic system.
Therefore, he said that the best way to pay homage to him was to pursue his vision of a democratic, safe and secure, strong and progressive model Muslim nation on the world map.
