University of Central Punjab clinched the trophy after defeating Superior University Lahore in the final of the 40th All-Pakistan Inter-University Men Handball Championship being played under the aegis of the Directorate of Sports University of Swabi at its premises on Thursday.
Vice Chancellor University of Swabi Professor Dr Noor Jehan was the chief guest on this occasion and before the start of the matches the players were introduced to her. Director Sports, international athlete Altaf Hussain, members of the faculty, head of various departments and large number of spectators were also present and witnessed the thrill-packed matches.
University of Central Punjab faced tough resistance against Superior University Lahore in the final and both the teams were locked at 9-9 till the end of the first session play. It was the second session in which both University of Central Punjab and Superior University Lahore played attacking game wherein UCP won the final by 18-15 in closely contestant match.
In the third position match Punjab University defeated Imperial University of Business Studies by 11-9 in another thrilling match. Punjab University dominated the first session and led the first-half by 7-3 but then Imperial University came back strongly and tied the tally at 9-9. It was in the dying moments when Punjab University Abu Bakar slammed in two quick goals to make the tally 11-9 and thus won the third position. A total of 19 teams from as many universities took part in the Championship organized by the Directorate of Sports University of Swabi. At the end, the chief guest Vice Chancellor University of Swabi gave away trophies and cash prizes to the winners, runners-up and third position holder.
