The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and its Secretary General Jahangir Tareen in response to a petition filed under Article 184 of Constitution, seeking their disqualification over alleged tax evasion. A two-member bench led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali took up a plea filed by PML-N's Hanif Abassi. He urged the court to issue directives to the concerned authorties to declare Imran Khan and Jahangir Khan Tareen disqualified from the Parliament for alleged tax evasion and hiding assets.
Muhammad Akram Sheikh, the counsel for Hanif Abassi, submitted to the court that he wanted to conduct a cross-examination of both the accused. The counsel further requested the court to club the instant petitions with the main petitions, seeking probe in the Panama Leaks by a larger bench of the apex court. The court however, observed that let the respondents submit their replies and after that the request for clubbing the petitions with the main petitions will be decided. Later, the court adjourned the hearing of the matter till November 15 while issuing notices to Imran Khan and Jahangir Khan Tareen in the matter.
