A local court on Sunday granted judicial remand of former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Faisal Raza Abidi sending him to after police produced him before a judicial magistrate Malir in connection with illegal weapon. Abidi have to stay behind the bars till November 19 as per magistrate orders.
He was arrested from his New Rizvia residence in the wee hours of Saturday.
The remand was granted after the investigation officer informed the court that a submachine gun (SMG) recovered from his house alongside other licensed arms was not licensed.
Earlier, he was implicated in a double murder case of Patel Parha Jamshed Quarters' police limits and then police showed recovery of illegal weapon from his possession during the course of action. The police also registered a case at Sachal Police Station.
According to the Police sources former senator was held in connection with the killings of two people associated with a Tableeghi Jamaat in Patel Para area besides some previous cases pertaining to sectarian killings on Friday.
Faisal Raza Abidi was once considered a close aide of former President Asif Ali Zardari but he quit as PPP Senator in 2014 and since then he distanced himself from the party.
He has been vocal against banned militant organisations and killing of Shia Muslims in Pakistan claimed by some of the banned outfits. With focus on that, Faisal Raza Abidi founded Voice of Martyrs of Pakistan to advocate the martyrs of armed forces as well because they too were martyred at the hands of banned outfits' militants.
