The employees of German Pharmaceutical Company, Merck staged protest demo against non-payment of severance after selling shareholding in Pakistan. The protesting employees were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. Talking to media men on the occasion, the employees told that the German Pharmaceutical company had sold its shareholding in Pakistan after 54 years of a successful and profitable operation.
They said that in recent past 9 pharmaceutical sector companies have abandoned their operations after payment of severance to their employees, but in case of Merck 2200 highly qualified employees have been handed to another company on only two-year contractual employment.
They said that the company had even not cleared the deduction made from them under the Employees Old-Age Benefit Institute (EOBI) and had not offered any golden handshake to its employees. They demanded of the government and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and other concerned authorities for taking stern action for the protection of the rights of pharmaceutical MNC employees in Pakistan.
