Federal Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafique said on Friday that electoral process is the only way to bring "change" in the country. "Lockdown politics is not in favor of the country and we believed that Islamabad sit-in was a conspiracy against the country. The politicians doing politics of lockdown should shun negative activities and wait for next general election," he added.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, he criticised PTI and said that Imran Khan should realize that change will only come through vote instead of sit-in. Minister Railways said that Imran Khan and other politicians should learn lesson from MQM's division, which split in three factions because they were doing politics of lockdown.
Talking about the Juma Ghoth train accident, the Minister ruled out the possibility of terrorism and said that it was an accident. "Right now we can't blame anyone and a committee has been constituted, which will present its report with next 8-day," he added.
He said that federal government was sincerely working for the betterment of Pakistan Railway, however the county's railway system was outdated and shortage of resources was a major hurdle in its development. "We are making efforts to reduce deficit and make it profitable. Fares have been reduced, besides adding new coaches and engines to facilitate the masses," he added.
In order to enhance the efficiency, a new railway track is under construction from Karachi to Peshawar. After the completion of this track, distance from Karachi to Lahore will reduce from 18 hours to 10-11 hours, he informed.
In addition, he said, entire railway system is being computerised to minimise the accident and enhance the efficiency. Rafique said that Karachi was the largest city of the country and need a mega transport project. "I requests Sindh government to come forward and initiate a mega transport project. We are ready to handover over 260 acre land of Pakistan Railways to the Sindh government for a mega transport project," he added. Sindh government may consult with CM Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif over transport project.
