A notice was issued by the Environment Minister Begum Zakia Shahnawaz with special directives to the Traffic Police Department here on Friday for taking special measures to avoid the traffic jams in prevailing environmental circumstances to save the travellers from smog.
She urged to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in any situation to avoid fossil pollutant stuff. Begum Zakia Shahnawaz was chairing a special meeting of the Environment Department. The Minister directed all the District Environment Officers and different chambers of Commerce to keep a strict check on the factories involved in contribution to environmental pollution and not to allow the usage of substandard fuel. She requested the same to industrialists and factories to use the wet scrubber (Environment Pollution Control) devices.
The Minister deputed mobile laboratories at different locations of the city to calculate environmental pollution and its monitoring. The meeting also urged the District Government Lahore and Lahore Waste Management Company to avoid burning waste in the open and to improve the methodology of the way to dispose waste collected from the city and to take steps for awareness amongst the masses about the prevailing situation.
