Surgeons from home and abroad have shared their experiences and latest trends in surgery at the scientific sessions in connection with the 15th three-day Surgical Conference which got underway at Fatima Jinnah Medical University on Monday. Leading Surgeon Professor Mukhtar Hassan Randhawa who was chief guest said service to the humanity purely on humanitarian grounds was "a guarantee for success in this world and hereafter".
The President of the Pakistan Society of Surgeons in Lahore, Professor Kamran Khalid Khawaja, and Secretary Doctor Ahmad Uzair Qureshi then talked about the aims and objects of the conference and the team spirit being considered as a vital element in treating patients.
Senior Vice-President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, Professor Khalid Masood Gondal, then announced that his college would launch two surgical super specialties in transplant and laparoscopic surgery and surgical oncology. Fatima Jinnah Medical University Vice-Chancellor Professor Aamer Zaman Khan also congratulated the Pakistan Society of Surgeons and assured it of cooperation. The president of the College of Surgeons Sri Lanka said health issues in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation region were common and a unanimous strategy could be adopted for research and treatment.
Surgeons Professors Khalid Durrani and Mumtaz Ahmad then received "Life-Time Achievement and Icon of Surgery Awards. The Pakistan Society of Surgeons' central body also elected Professor Abdul Razzaq Sheikh as the President for the next two years. The gathering also drew in senior surgeons Professors Mahmood Ayyaz, Abdul Majeed Chaudhry, Ahsan Ullah, Abrar Ashraf Ali, Ashgar Naqi, Khalid Javed Khan and Colonel MA Raheem.
