Dasu hydropower project will be completed by December 2020 and it would generate 2,160 MW per day. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal informed the National Assembly during question hour that contract for the relocation of the Dasu-Karakoram Highway-01 and construction of a right bank access road has been awarded.
Kamal said the project was approved by Ecnec on March 28, 2014 for Rs486,093.3 million.
The minister said that the contract for the construction of 132 KV transmission line from Duber to Dasu has also been awarded.
Responding to a question, he said there are various projects underway to make hydropower houses more efficient. He said that an upgrade and refurbishment of the Mangla Power Station has been planned to increase the efficiency of turbines and reliability of Hydraulic equipment, following which the power generation capacity will increase from 1,000 to 1,310 MW.
Similarly, up-gradation and modernisation of the Warsak Hydroelectric Power Station will also help regain the capacity of 53 MW, he said.
The minister also told the lower house that the Munda Dam Hydropower Project is in a detailed engineering design phase and would be completed in seven years.
The house was also informed that recoverable electricity bills against private and public sector institutions of all power distribution companies as on June 2015 stand at Rs570,526.55 million.
To another question asked by MNA Naeema Kishwar Khan, the house was informed that Wapda has made the payment of Rs7,900 million up to June 30 this year to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government against Rs6,000 million, clearing the backlog of Rs1,900 million.
As an arrear of Net Hydel Profit to the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rs1,700 million is payable. The house was also informed that last Council of Common Interest meeting was held on March 18 this year wherein the issue of outstanding amount of the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against Wapda was not raised by any stakeholder.
