Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that the opposition demand of his resignation and dissolution of provincial assembly is totally uncalled for as the Election Commission is responsible for mismanagement and alleged rigging.
He said that he himself is complainant over election mismanagement and said that PTI has offered investigation into incidents occurred in the elections and is ready for it. He said that if any PTI candidate was found involved in barring women from polling will face disciplinary action.
Talking to media, the chief minister rejected the allegation of interference by provincial government in the delimitation process and said that the delimitation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were accepted by the Supreme Court and the local bodies' elections were held on the same.
The chief minister said that PTI chief Imran Khan had held ECP responsible for rigging in General Elections 2013.
He said that those demanding his resignation and dissolution of provincial assembly should also known that holding of polls under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2013 was the responsibility of Election Commission and the provincial government itself is complainant in violation of rules by Election Commission, due to which the elections were marred by mismanagement and quarrels.
The chief minister attributed mismanagement to unprecedented increase in the number of seats and candidates. He said the provincial government asked the Election Commission to hold polls under the supervision of army, which was not accepted.
To a question, he said that he had neither interfered in the case of Mian Iftikhar Hussain nor personally consider him involved in it. He said that rules of business for local governments had been prepared, saying that no powers of local governments slashed.
He said that rules of business have no concern with it as it have been fixed under Local Government Act, which has been adopted by the provincial assembly unanimously.
